Duties and Responsibilities

Due to the nature of this assignment, it is imperative that the Acting Shift Supervisor maintain a high standard of performance.  The incumbent must present a professional image, including dress, deportment, and remain impartial, firm, but polite in all dealings with employees, client stakeholders and the visiting public. 

  • This is a working supervisor position. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Supervise the day-to-day operations of the shift

  • Brief and inspect each shift prior to shift commencement

  • Account for stores and equipment allotted to the shift

  • Ensure the proper preparation and safeguarding of files, records and ledgers

  • Patrol of designated areas inside and outside the hospital with view to preventing insecure, unsafe activities and/or conditions

  • Challenge suspicious or unauthorized persons on hospital premises, in accordance with the Protection of Properties Act

  • Provide assistance as necessary to staff, patients and visitors

  • Investigate and follow up all accidents and incidents re: thefts, break and enter, as required and report them in writing

  • Administrative and clerical duties

  • Prepares Incident reports for printing

  • Carries out Missing Patient protocol

  • Responds to and plays an active role in all coded emergencies in accordance with the site Emergency Response Plan

  • Restrains patients as ordered by the medical or nursing staff

  • Responds to Psychiatric Emergencies and Assists

  • Certain morgue duties

  • Responsible for management of locker allocations

  • Enforces the Capital Health smoking policy and documents all non-compliance

  • First Aid response

  • Performs such other related duties as may be assigned

 

Qualifications and Skill Requirements:

The incumbent must possess the following skills, experiences and attributes:

  • A minimum 6 months previous supervisory experience in a hospital security environment is essential

  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills with an ability to influence

  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated computer literacy essential (user level) with experience using MS Office Suite products such as Word, Excel and the Internet

  • Demonstrated attention to detail with a strong sense of urgency

  • Demonstrated excellent customer service skills

  • Demonstrated professionalism
